ReadyLIFT Suspension Leveling Frequently Asked Questions.
Have questions about ReadyLIFT products? Below you will find some common questions that we get from customers. Also, if you have a product specific and want questions on that you can always view that product page where you can find more questions and answers.
–Can I use tires bigger than 33” with your leveling kit?
That depends. Some trucks such as earlier model Ford F150s as well as Super Duty’s and Ram 1500/2500 truck can generally run a tire larger than a 33. The offset and width of the wheel will determine just how much larger you can go. Some vehicles may require some trimming modifications in order to allow for a larger tire than we advertise. Keep in mind, our mission is to provide an accurate leveling situation that does not require trimming or modifications.
–What about backspacing or offset? Can I run a negative offset wheel?
The proper backspacing, now more commonly referred to as “offset”, is entirely dependent upon the vehicle and tire being installed. For almost all of our full-size truck lift kits and leveling kits, we base the lift and clearance availability around a 9″ wide wheel. The offset that we recommend for each kit will vary and is based on a no-rub scenario. Where you may be able to use a 0 offset wheel on one make, another such as a newer Ford Super Duty can more easily accommodate a negative offset wheel.
–Will my truck drive differently?
Although we design our kits to keep the stock suspension ride, the added height at the front of the truck along with off road style tires can affect the way your truck drives. Our ReadyLIFT engineers take pride in developing suspension systems that retain the factory ride and handling. In some cases, both attributes are actually improved over stock!
–I installed custom 20” wheels and 35” tires, and my truck does NOT drive like stock.
By adding new rims and larger tires, it is possible to add over 50 pounds of unsprung weight to each corner of your truck. This extra weight can easily overwhelm your stock shocks. For many applications we suggest upgrading to heavy duty shocks if you plan on using larger wheels and tires. Larger off road tires with aggressive tread patterns and weak OEM shocks are generally the most common culprit to changing the way a truck or SUV drives after lifting it.
–Can’t I just crank up my own torsion keys?
Yes. The difference between cranking your own keys and using ours are as follows:
a) Our forged keys are MUCH stronger than the stock cast keys. The stock key will also be turned at an angle that can bend the adjusting key, making it nearly impossible to readjust.
b) We include shock extensions or brackets with our kits that allow the stock shock to work within the correct piston range. Simply cranking a torsion key can cause the stock piston to “top out”, and fail quickly.
c) We include custom adjusting bolts with kits that need them. These bolts prevent customers from over-cranking the torsion key, which prevents the damage listed above.
–What will the ReadyLIFT kits do to my CV joints and steering arms?
The ReadyLIFT is designed to work within the stock suspension travel of your truck, and does not appreciably affect the life of your other suspension components. We take great care when engineering our lift and leveling kits on IFS trucks to not over lift the suspension in such a way as to put the CV axles at risk in a normal street driving environment. The life of your suspension is much more affected by the way you drive.
–I have a 6” lift right now, and want to raise my truck a little more. Can I add the ReadyLIFT kit to get the extra lift?
The ReadyLIFT kits are designed to be used with stock suspensions on standard trucks. There is no way for us to determine how our kits will work with your current suspension. Custom use voids our lifetime warranty, so use at your own risk.
–How much extra travel will the ReadyLIFT kit give me?
None. Our kits offer the stock suspension travel only. However, you will experience increased ground clearance, especially when used with larger tires. In order to increase suspension travel, you will need to install a mid or long travel suspension.
–How about upward travel?
We carefully engineer our kits to retain a safe amount of upward travel and offer a level ride. We could raise ride height even further, but it would sacrifice the ride and top out the suspension. Where it is applicable, many of our leveling and lift kits include longer bump stops or bump stop extensions to limit up travel. This is one of the critical areas where choosing a ReadyLIFT kit over a cheap kit make a significant difference in the life of your suspension.
–Does your kit void my vehicle warranty?
NO. Our kits work within the stock suspension range. A manufacturer must show that your aftermarket part, from wiper blades to bed liners, caused a specific failure. Also, any failure does not void any other part of the warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) specifically prohibits a dealer or vehicle manufacturer from canceling a warranty because a lift or leveling kit was installed unless it can be proven the lift or leveling kit caused the part seeking warranty coverage to fail. New truck dealerships are one of ReadyLIFT’s biggest customers.
Additionally, virtually all ReadyLIFT Leveling and Lift Kits include our Limited Lifetime Product Warranty along with a ReadyGuard 5 year-60,000 Powertrain warranty. To take full advantage of the ReadyGuard warranty, you must register your vehicle after a ReadyLIFT kit has been installed by an authorized dealer at www.readylift.com/ready-guard.
